The first church was built in the late 1800s on a tract of land granted by the Moxley Family called Friendship Farm, located in Claggettsville, MD at Route 27 and Route 80. The grant also included lumber for constructing the building.
The Taylor, Welsh, Hosley, Gaither, Gray, Zeigler, Potts, Lyles and Donnally families made up the original congregation of Friendship Church.
The first two pastors were Reverend Benjamin Brown and Reverend Bradley Johnson. A second church was built in 1901.
In 1942, Friendship Church was moved back to Route 27, and a basement was added. In the early 1950s, the trustees erected the community house.
In July 2018, Tyree Newman was appointed as the Pastor of Friendship United Methodist Church.
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. - Matthew 16:18
